Serial Summaries – Book Edition II: August 2016 Wrap-Up and Haul

14th September 2016 by Gemma 4 Comments

I’m going to get the timing of posting these monthly summaries right someday, I swear.

I’ve also decided to have a separate book and travel edition since I don’t think anyone fancies having a long post filled with a heap of images. Not good for mobile data, no? (Aren’t I so considerate?)

August 2016 Wrap-up

Did I have a Harry Potter month? Why, yes, I did.

I was going to see Harry Potter and the Cursed Child on stage at the end of August (I talk more about it here), so I thought I’d try and re-read the whole series before I did. As you can surmise from the photo, that didn’t exactly go to plan.

I did manage to write my review for The Girls before the end of last month! Read about it here!

As for what I thought of the Potter books — Prisoner of Azkaban and Goblet of Fire remain my top Harry Potter books, and Chamber of Secrets is close to my heart because it was my first ever Potter book.

Compared to July, I didn’t manage to read as much last month. I don’t know really know what happened. I tend to procrastinate about everything, even reading, and I can be indecisive on which book I want to pick up. Ah well.

August 2016 Wrap-up

My September buys were mostly driven by the ManBooker 2016 longlist. I didn’t fancy getting broke by buying all of them, so I whittled it down to four books — Do Not Say We Have Nothing, His Bloody Project, The North Water, and The Sellout. They’ve just released the shortlist this morning, and three of them (except The North Water, which I’m currently reading) made it, so I’m quite pleased with my decisions!

On the far right are — yes, you are not mistaken — two copies of Nevernight. I bought the Waterstones exclusive with black sprayed edges before my Illumicrate box arrived (read about the contents of that subscription box here), and lo and behold, it had Nevernight too! I may give it to one of my cousins for Christmas. Hee. The Graces is the other book in the August Illumicrate box.

I bought This Savage Song as it was half price when I went to buy Nevernight (I can’t resist book bargains).

The books piled up are books won in giveaways, or provided by publishers. Many thanks to Serpent’s Tail for Harmless Like You, Sarah Benton for all the Sci-Fi/Fantasy books in that pile, and to Jessica Killingley for the signed proof of Everyone Brave is Forgiven.

I must say, I’m not doing so well this September! Half the month is gone already, and I realised this morning that I’ve only bought one book! So I went and bought three this afternoon. Afraid that might be it for a while…

OMG! Your picutures <3 Now following you on Instagram. 😀
Glad we agree about Prisoner of Azkaban being one of the best Potter books. The movie is also one of my faves.

      Aw thank you! 🙂
I don’t understand why PoA is the most hated movie out of all the Potter movies. It was really done well, and I can’t complain about the deviations because it made it a better movie-watching experience.

I liked Nevernight! I’m still trying to get my arse down to write a review for it, but I’m a really bad blogger, so…:D I don’t even know when I’ll get to This Savage Song!
